Imagine the present issues we face on Gold Coast in terms of social responsibility, arts and culture, the environment, politics and lifestyle. Now fast-forward 50 years, what will this all look like? Enter The Sold Coast, a symposium happening TOMORROW 14 April at Rabbit and cocoon from 10am-6pm. The event seeks to discuss these ideas and will feature incredible speakers from the sectors of architecture, design, the arts, Indigenous policy and disaster management (Philip Follent, Mara Bun, Destry Puia, Michael Aird, Marcus Waters and Jim Gall are among the speakers). Tickets avail at the door tomoz or at www.thesoldcoast.com. You can also digi-chat with us by following @thesoldcoast and @rabbitandcocoon on the Twit, and hashtagging #thesoldcoast on Insta/Twit. ♥

Inspired by her hometown’s built landscape and transient lived experiences, Gold Coast artist Anna Carey creates miniature models of houses and buildings that are nostalgically familiar, yet sublimely alien. By presenting the final product as photographic works Anna further collapses the concept of location and scale, and in doing so, she leaves viewers with an open-ended and speculative perception of rooms, hallways and balconies that at one time appeared to be inhabited, but now seem aged and debased. The trick is that these spaces do not actually physically exist – they are more of a visual memory-trigger used by the artist to evoke feelings associated with a transitory, holiday-esque lifestyle.
This week I interviewed Anna about her works, which can be viewed in The Cocoon Corner, Rabbit+Cocoon’s blog. Anna’s solo show is on show from 4-25 April as part of The Walls, located at Rabbit+Cocoon 23 Hillcrest Pde Miami Gold Coast.

Clams Casino - One Last Thing [Mac Miller]

‘One Last Thing’ by Mac Miller (produced by Clams Casino) comes to mind today, as this was the day that I was able to move into my new part-time West End home! I say part-time because the Gold Coast is still my home town, and the main purpose of this room really is to be my work-during-the-week locker, and place to crash when I can’t be bothered to fang back home. A spare room near the city is cheaper than taking the train back to the GC each week, would you believe.

Anyway, today, while we were packing stuff into my car I kept saying to my boy: “Ok two more paintings to take, and that’s it! No, wait, one last thing, a lamp. And one last thing, my  bookshelf! One last thing, my pen collection, let’s go.”

Amanda Palmer’s music may not be for everyone, but her experiences as an artist, and her desire to connect with the world around her, is universal. An incredible talk about not being afraid to ask, about sometimes needing to let go, and about having the faith to liberate yourself into the arms of strangers.
